Shock Therapy Reflections

If you enjoy the energy that comes when a group of young creative minds comes together, then Thursday Oct. 1 2009′s Shock Therapy was the place to be. Held in a Starbucks on a corner in Harlem, Shock Therapy was an inspiring treat for musicians, poets and regular folks alike. The night was a beautiful testimony to what young creative minds can do. There were modern day songs sung and played that would make even the original artist go limp in awe and songs that made everyone there join in. There where songs that made you want to get up and dance and songs that made you want to give praise to the Lord and embrace loved ones and friends. There seemed to be an invisible connection created by music between all who attended, when one person stopped singing/playing another began. From soulful baritones singing about love to young lyricists rapping about life to amazingly beautiful saxophone numbers and Nigerian men singing in their native tongue. There where times when the singing would stop & the musicians would continue where the singers left off creating a relaxing yet energetic vibe with small jam sessions throughout the night.  The smorgasbord of gospel and secular music made all who came feel the exuberant exhilarating energy that any mind could blossom in. Shock Therapy may be small but it is a force to be reckoned with.
